Android tablet connected via WiFi, but screen remains black despite active connection

Hello,

I’m experiencing an issue when trying to use my Android tablet as a secondary screen via WiFi using spacedesk:

  • The connection between my Windows notebook and the Android tablet is established successfully and shown as „connected“ in the spacedesk software.
  • However, the tablet screen remains completely black — nothing is displayed.
  • I have already uninstalled and reinstalled both the spacedesk driver on the Windows notebook and the viewer app on the Android tablet.
  • I also reset both the spacedesk settings and the Windows display settings.
  • The tablet is recognized in the Windows display settings, but it cannot be used properly.
  • How do I know that the connection is established? On the tablet, the gray menu button with the three lines is visible, and I have the option to disconnect the session.

I’d appreciate any advice or troubleshooting steps to resolve this issue.
Thank you in advance!

Best regards,
KonTam

Hi @kontam,

The logs you sent are incomplete. For further analysis of the issue, please send us the logs of your server machine by opening the spacedesk Driver console as administrator and clicking on Diagnostics then follow the steps below:

1. Download the DebugView.
2. Check the Diagnostic Collection box.
3. Reproduce the issue e.g. by connecting the spacedesk Viewer app.
4. Uncheck the Diagnostic Collection box.
5. Click “Save All Information” button (this might take a while to finish).
6. Compress/Zip the folder which contains the logs, then attach to your next reply to this post. If the folder exceeds 512kb, you may upload it to Dropbox or Google Drive then include the download link on your next reply.

Thank you.

I believe all relevant information should now be complete.

I tried again and tested it with a second notebook and a second tablet — the same issue with the black screen occurs in all combinations. So the problem seems to persist regardless of the device used.

Hi @kontam,

If your viewer has the Encoding Type option under Settings > Quality/Performance, can you try setting it to „Software Encoding (forced)“ then try to connect again if the display still shows a black screen?

Now it works.

Thank you!
