Cannot install new version: Old version removal failed loop

Subject: [Help] Installation Failed: „The older version cannot be removed“ loop

Message: Hi,

I am trying to install the latest version of Spacedesk, but I am stuck in a loop. I previously had an older version installed, and now the installer fails with the following error:

„The older version of spacedesk Windows DRIVER cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group.“

I have already tried the following steps to manually remove the old version, but none of them worked:

Manually deleted the installation files from the Program Files directory.
Manually deleted the .sys driver files from System32/drivers (including taking ownership to delete them).
Searched and deleted Registry keys containing „spacedesk“ and „datronicsoft“ (in Uninstall, UpgradeCodes, and Services).
Tried using the „Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Troubleshooter,“ but I could not find the Product Code for the old version.

My system still thinks the old version is installed but cannot find the source MSI to uninstall it.

Is there a specific cleaner tool or a specific registry key (like in Installer/Products) that I need to delete to force a clean install?

Hi @ming-2,

To further analyze your issue, please send us the following files:
– run dxdiag.exe on your primary machine, click “Save all information” and send us the output file
– spacedeskSetup.log file located in C:\Users\Public
– setupapi.dev.log file located in C:\Windows\INF
– open command prompt and run „pnputil -e“ then copy the output to Notepad and save as text.

Please zip all files in one folder then attach it to your next reply. Thank you.

I found Error 1714 and Error 1610 in the log, indicating corrupt configuration data

Thank you for sending your logs. Do you know the last version of spacedesk you installed in your PC?

The last version installed on my PC was v2.1.40. I am currently trying to install the new version v2.2.15.

Please uninstall the previously spacedesk Driver through using Microsoft Fix. You may refer to this article here. If spacedesk is not on the program list, just select “Not Listed” then paste the product code your spacedesk version below:
