[SOLVED] Continuously displaying Spacedesk Connection Notifications when laptop goes to standby

Seite 1 von 2Nächste

Hi,

I have a really annoying and fully repeatable issue when I use Spacedesk with a USB cable connection between my ASUS laptop (running Windows 11) and my Samsung Android tablet.

The problem occurs every time my laptop goes into standby mode while already connected to my tablet as a second display.  When I wake up the laptop again, I get a flickering notification window with a title “Spacedesk Connection Notification” which seems to be being redrawn many times a second.  Its hard to read the text in the window but I think it says “1 connection pending”.  It does this even if I have unplugged the tablet. It seems like this window is being drawn and deleted many times a second, so it flickers and is semi-translucent.

When this happens, it becomes impossible to interact with any windows on the laptop. The only way to get control back on the laptop  is to Ctrl-ALt-Delete and bring up Task Manager and then manually kill the SpacedeskServer, exe and/or Spacedesk Notification Application tasks. Even this is a bit difficult due to the HCI being affected by the Spacedesk pop-up notifications but after a few attempts I can usually manage to kill the problem tasks. According to Task Manager the SpacedeskServer application was using 23% CPU and the spacedesk Notification Application was using 17% CPU when the problem was happening.

To check the problem was related to the laptop going into stanby, I set my laptop standby period to a very short value of 2 mins, connected the laptop to the tablet and checked it correctly displayed my laptop[ screen on the tablet. I then left the laptop untouched for 2 mins. At the end of this time, the tablet displayed a message on the tablet  saying that the connection was broken, and then if I wake up the laptop, the flickering alert window is there. Fully repeatable and only happens when 1) a connection already exists beteeen the laptop and the tablet screens and 2) the lap top has gone into standby.

I have attached a screen shots showing an example of the pop-up window.

I also have a video but aren’t able to attach it to this form as its too large but can email it if you wish.

Note: apart from this problem, I am very happy with the way Spacedesk works. I have no problem using it until the laptop goes into standby, so any fix is very welcome.

Regards

Dave

Hi @dave_wildenhotmail-com,

We’ve managed to reproduce the issue on our end but inconsistently. We’re currently investigating it and we’ll get back to you once there’s an update. Thank you.

Hi @dave_wildenhotmail-com,

Is spacedesk set to open on your android tablet when it’s connected via USB to your laptop?
By standby mode, you mean sleep mode, correct? Also, please upload the video of the issue via Dropbox or Google drive then post the link on your next reply. Thank you.

Hi Renz,

I start  Spacedesk app manually on both the laptop and the tablet. It then automatically opens up a mirror of my laptop display when I connect the USB cable.

You are right, I do mean sleep mode.  But the problem only happens when the laptop automatically goes into sleep mode after a period of inactivity, not when I manually select “Sleep” from the windows home menu.

I have attached a video showing how I can bring up the problem reproducibly.

This is the process summarised.

(1) Connect laptop to tablet and verify remote display is working.

(2) Open up  Windows 11 Settings  and select  System… Power,..Screen…Sleep and hibenate

(3) Set Screen and Sleep timeouts both to 1 min to make the problem occur quickly.

(4) Don’t touch the laptop for  2 or 3 mins.

(5) After 1 min the laptop screen goes off, but the tablet continues to display a frozen copy of the laptop screen.

(5) After a further minute or so the tablet goes back to its desktop image and displays a message saying the USB link has stopped.

(6) Leave for a further 15 secs and then wake up the laptop by pressing Enter.  The flickering notification will then be there and can only be closed using Task Manager.

Hope this helps.

Dave
