Double (backup) connection feature

It would be nice to be able to link to two types of connections in case one of them disappears.

Case:
I have a tablet connected to a PC using an Ethernet cable (usb-hub) – so I use a full-speed spacedesk connection, without USB (because it’s not good to lose USB apps when that mode is enabled), but it would be great if I could connect the tablet to the PC via wifi at the same time when the cable connection is active.
That way, when I lose the cable (perhaps when moving the tablet around my workspace), it will automatically switch to Wi-Fi. This seems like an easy to implement feature with a noticeable effect.
Right now I need to: disconnect from cable – connect to wifi with likely loss of open programme windows states – then disconnect from wifi again – connect back via wire.
And if I could assign the wired method a backup in the form of wi-fi, that would be incredibly convenient.

Thanks in advance.

That sounds like a fantastic idea! Having a seamless transition between Ethernet and Wi-Fi would definitely enhance usability, especially in scenarios where you might accidentally disconnect the cable. To achieve this, the feature would ideally allow the system to recognize both connections simultaneously and automatically switch to the backup when the primary connection is lost.

Here are some potential steps you can take to explore this feature:

  1. Check for Software Solutions: Some software solutions might offer this kind of functionality. Look for network management tools that support automatic failover between Ethernet and Wi-Fi.
  2. Router Configuration: Some advanced routers offer features like “Dual WAN” or “Link Aggregation,” which can be configured to switch between connections. This might help if you can set your router to handle the transition.
  3. Operating System Settings: Check if your operating system provides options for setting up network priorities. On Windows, you can manage the network adapter priorities to prefer Ethernet over Wi-Fi but automatically connect to Wi-Fi if Ethernet is disconnected.
  4. Spacedesk Feature Requests: Since you’re using Spacedesk, it might be worth reaching out to their support or community forums to suggest this feature. They might be interested in implementing such functionality in future updates.

While I understand this involves a bit of a workaround at present, advocating for this feature might lead to its development and make things much more convenient in the long run.      MyCenturaHealths
