Issues with Spacedesk Connection While Using Port Forwarding

Hi everyone,

I’m having trouble getting Spacedesk to work in my network setup. Here’s the situation:

  • My client computer and router are both on the campus network (10.*.*.*).
  • The server PC running Spacedesk is behind the router (on a local IP, 192.168.*.*).
  • I’ve configured port forwarding on the router to forward TCP port 28252 to the server PC’s IP (10.*.*.*:28252→192.168.*.*:28252).
  • I’ve tested the router’s 28252 port on the client computer, and the port is accessible.

Despite this, Spacedesk on the client side still fails to connect to the server. Even though the port is open and accessible, the connection is not being established. I was configuring port fowarding for Moonlight streaming simultaeneously and Moonlight worked perfectly… Is that because the connection to Spacedesk server is restricted in LAN and thus port fowarding doesn’t work… or is it because I have set it up in a wrong way?

Spacedesk only works in LAN. Is the server discoverable in the viewer?

Nope, the client cannot find the server in the 10.*.*.* network, and that’s why I am asking for help here… Is there any way to enable spacedesk for WAN?

Unfortunately, no. Spacedesk only works in LAN.

you can technically make spacedesk work on WAN, in fact I commented this on the tablet which connect the pc through my Internet WAN IPV4 address, using the same port you provided. But make sure that the ISP allow your router to port forwarding, otherwise you can’t connect from external sources to your pc. The port forwarding is the process to make your as the external sources access that LAN network through the router’s IP address

If you don’t know that your ISP provide your router to being port forwarding, then I highly recommend that you contact the ISP then the problem should be solved. With this connection, you will need to add your internet IPv4 manually on client-side spacedesk.

That’s a clever workaround! Where finding the right path takes some trial and error, setting up WAN access for Spacedesk requires some tinkering—especially with port forwarding. If your ISP plays nice, you’re all set to roll, but if not, better to reach out and clear the path. Keep running smoothly!

I think you may forward spacedesk port from your router to your local machine, but on security chain this is not good idea.
