Cannot install new version: Old version removal failed loop
Quote from ming on 02/02/2026, 22:44Subject: [Help] Installation Failed: “The older version cannot be removed” loop
Message: Hi,
I am trying to install the latest version of Spacedesk, but I am stuck in a loop. I previously had an older version installed, and now the installer fails with the following error:
“The older version of spacedesk Windows DRIVER cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group.”
I have already tried the following steps to manually remove the old version, but none of them worked:
Manually deleted the installation files from the
Program Filesdirectory.Manually deleted the
.sysdriver files fromSystem32/drivers(including taking ownership to delete them).Searched and deleted Registry keys containing “spacedesk” and “datronicsoft” (in Uninstall, UpgradeCodes, and Services).
Tried using the “Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Troubleshooter,” but I could not find the Product Code for the old version.
My system still thinks the old version is installed but cannot find the source MSI to uninstall it.
Is there a specific cleaner tool or a specific registry key (like in
Installer/Products) that I need to delete to force a clean install? Thanks in advance.

Please uninstall the previously spacedesk Driver through using Microsoft Fix. You may refer to this article here. If spacedesk is not on the program list, just select “Not Listed” then paste the product code your spacedesk version below:
