Cannot install spacedesk – "driver installation error", registry leftovers after uninstall

Dear Spacedesk Support,

I’m unable to install spacedesk due to persistent driver installation errors. After previously uninstalling spacedesk (about 6 months ago), I now cannot reinstall it.

Problem details:

  1. Error message during installation:
“An error has been encountered while installing spacedesk driver. Installation will be stopped. Please reboot the machine and run this setup again. If the issue persists, please contact spacedesk support.”

  2. I’ve tried:

    • Complete uninstall via Control Panel

    • Manual removal from registry (found leftovers in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\spddl, HKEY_USERS…\datronicsoft, etc.)

    • Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Troubleshooter

    • Safe mode installation attempts

    • pnputil driver removal commands

    • Deleting all spacedesk files from DriverStore

  3. System: Windows 10 (fully updated)

Request:

  • Please provide a complete cleanup tool or manual removal guide

  • Or advise how to force remove all spacedesk components including the spddl driver

  • Alternative: provide a version with different driver signature/name

The installer seems to detect previous installation remnants but cannot remove them. I need assistance to completely clean my system before fresh installation.

To analyze the error, I archived the files (similar to the messages from other users on the forum).

Thank you for your help.

Hi @kkkk,

Have you tried installing the latest spacedesk Driver package v2215 to your PC? From the logs you sent, there is no instance of you installing it on your PC. You may try installing it first to see if installation would proceed. As for your requests:

  • There is a guide in the Documentation that goes step by step on how to manually remove the components of the spacedesk Driver Package from your PC. Please refer to the section Uninstall on Primary Windows Machine > Manual Uninstall (Troubleshooting Only) to completely remove all components of spacedesk manually.
  • We do not own the “spddl driver” you indicated here.
  • Our Driver packages and all its relevant components are always both signed by us and by Microsoft.

If there are still issues with installation after you tried the instructions in this reply, please resend the installation logs you sent earlier while making sure that the files sent are the latest copies. Thank you.
