USB connection with IPAD caused the usb ports to shut off.

It worked for about an hour then I noticed my ipad was about to die and was no longer charing. I unpluged from my motherboard and tried a mouse and keyboard in the surrounding us ports but they were not working. This is a brand new $2500 gaming PC, with a MSI MPG Z790I EDGE WIFI (MS-7E03) motherboard. REsetting the PC did bring back the ports, but it concerns me that this happened. Should I get a powered USB strip and then plug into the PC from that to avoid these overcurrent protections being triggered?
