Android USB Connection Issues

Hi,

I am experiencing a critical bug with the Spacedesk Android Viewer when trying to connect via a USB cable. This setup worked flawlessly on my previous tablet (Lenovo Tab 11), and it was also working perfectly on this new tablet until recently. Now, the app constantly crashes upon launch on the new one.

I just cross-tested this with my old tablet (Lenovo Tab 11) using the exact same PC and the exact same USB cable: the connection establishes instantly without any issue. This isolates the problem entirely to the new tablet’s current behavior.

  • PC Setup: Windows 10/11 (Spacedesk Driver Console up to date, USB option ON)

  • Faulty Tablet Setup: Lenovo Idea Tab (Standard model, not to be confused with the higher-end “Idea Tab Plus”)

  • Symptom: As soon as the USB cable is plugged in and the Spacedesk app is launched on the Idea Tab, the app immediately crashes. A toast notification saying “USB connection lost” pops up right after.

  • Wi-Fi Connection: Wi-Fi mode still works on the Idea Tab, but my current local network environment is poor, causing heavy latency. I strictly need to recover the wired USB connection that used to work.

Troubleshooting steps already taken on the Idea Tab (with no success):

  1. Full app reinstallation, cleared cache and storage data.

  2. Switched Android USB modes between “File Transfer” (MTP), “PTP”, and tried enabling/disabling USB Debugging.

  3. Disabled USB selective suspend and power management rules on the Windows PC.

  4. Reset USB default app preferences within Android settings.

It feels like a sudden regression or software conflict regarding how this specific tablet model handles Spacedesk’s network-over-USB protocol, leading to an immediate virtual disconnection.

Is there a known fix or a specific workaround to solve this?

Thank you for your support.

Hi @taka-2,

Can you try the following steps below to see the result on your end:

  1. Unplug USB from Android device
  2. In the spacedesk Android app, go to Settings > Encoding Type option to “Software Encoding MJPEG (forced)”
  3. Plug USB cable to Android device
  4. If connected, check in the spacedesk Driver Console which Encoding Type the connected device is using.

It seems to be working; I can see my PC display on the tablet.

I’ll keep you posted if I notice any changes or unexpected behavior.

Thanks.

I forgot, where can I find the console and the information you want to know?

Hi @taka-2,

Thank you for the quick feedback. If you can, can you also try connecting via Wifi with the Encoding type set to “Hardware Encoding H264 (forced” to see if it works or not? Thank you.

It works very well over Wi-Fi, whether in automatic mode or by forcing each of the encoding settings.
