Connected – Display OFF Issue

Hello, I’ve used spacedesk before and it’s been a great program. Recently, I’ve been trying to set it up on two new computers (host/server is a windows 10 pc, viewer/client is a windows 11 laptop) and can’t get them to work. Here’s a long rundown of everything I’ve done to try get them to work:
– Reinstalled Viewer for Windows 11 on laptop twice, reinstalled Windows 11 64-bit on host twice.

– Restarted both computers several times to ensure no issues.

– Both PCs are in the same wifi network.

– The client can see the host as an option to connect and is able to connect to it.

– The host detects one connection is taking place and in „Settings > Display“ a new monitor can be seen which matches the resolution of the client.

– The client is able to take control of the host’s mouse after choosing to do so once the connection is established.

– Both computers have the current network saved as Private, not Public.

– The client has the computer’s default resolution as the resolution being shared in spacedesk (changing the resolution to a lower value didn’t help either)

– The encoding type has been changed to Software Encoding MJPEG (forced) from the default Automatic Selection, neither option worked.

The only issue I’m facing as far as I can tell is that the 2nd monitor/laptop/client is simply not able to show or receive the information of what the screen should „look like“ even though the connection is strong and doesn’t seem to show any issue.

If there’s anything I can do to fix the „Connected – Display OFF“ issue I’m more than happy to do so I simply need the steps to do it and where to post it. Thanks in adavnce.

Hi @sett,

Can you send a screenshot of the Windows Display Settings after you connect your viewer to your Primary Machine? Thank you.

Gladly! Sorry for the long response time I had to go sleep and I assume our tiemzones are different.

On the client side there is no change with the Display settings and I don’t see the two screens (as far as I know that’s nornal).

On the host side I can see this:

For refernce, the nº1 screen is my main monitor (1920×1080) while my nº2 screen is my 2nd screen/client (2880×1800).

I figured it out!

It’s taken me 3 days of non-stop trying to troubleshoot this all day, I’ve finally solved it and it’s quite embarrassing. I simply had to disable „NVIDIA overlay“ in the NVIDIA app and then restart my computer, in the „Incompatible Software Products“ section it says which aren’t compatible and as soon as I realized that tab existed I saw that the NVIDIA program was interfering with it.

Thanks for the help anyways and I highly suggest people check that out before anything else considering how popular NVIDIA graphics cards are.

Also, just out of curiosity, is there any chance the overlay and spacedesk could be compatible in the future? I find both of them to be invaluable tools for seeing game performance vs having multiple monitors so if they could coexist in the future that would be great. If not that’s not an issue I’m sure there’s software alternatives for showing in-game performance 🙂
