Request for Linux Client with Wayland Support
Zitat von stream am 23/08/2025, 01:43 UhrHello spacedesk community,
First of all, thank you for your amazing work on spacedesk — it’s a very useful tool for extending displays across devices.
We would like to kindly request the development of a Linux client with Wayland support. With the growing popularity of Linux and the increasing adoption of Wayland as the default display server (especially in distributions like Fedora, Ubuntu, and Arch), native support would greatly expand spacedesk’s usability.
Currently, Linux users face compatibility issues or are forced to use workarounds that may not work well or are limited to X11. A native Wayland-compatible client would be a game-changer for the community.
Please consider this for your future roadmap. We’re excited about the potential of using spacedesk more seamlessly on our Linux setups.
Thank you!
Best regards,

Most modern Linux distributions now use Wayland by default, so relying only on X11 limits usability. I use spacedesk for extended displays, but without Wayland support, it can be unstable or require workarounds. Adding official Wayland support would make spacedesk much more reliable and accessible for Linux users.

Zitat von Lapis am 19/03/2026, 01:01 UhrThis would be very much appreciated. Here is the current state of things on linux.
I got the HTML5 client to work when disabling security but it only supports JPEG compression so the framerate is very bad. Not useful for anything other than task manager.
The Windows 7 version trough vine is a little bit better but very much buggy without a lot of luck. Also it has issues such as not keeping the screen on properly.
The up to date MS store version of the app can not be launched because it’s UWP and wine does not support that.
The android app works the best by far if you run it trough Waydroid. It however still has issues of not keeping the screen on properly and the fact that you are trying to use an android app on a desktop.A native app would be extremely useful. Even if it was just an electron app. Or even just implementing H264 compression for the web client would get us most of the way there.
