Android USB connection breaks

Page 1 of 2Next

Android device: Samsung galaxy tab s9 ultra
Windows 11
using the most up to date version of both server/client, 2.2.27/2.1.37

When connecting over usb, the connection starts fine, but then within a few seconds the display freezes and any updates from the pc are not displayed. If i then use touch screen input it updates the display and again works for a few seconds then freezes again.
It seems to last longer if i keep the displayed image updating but as soon as the frame doesnt change for a second it freezes, ie the connection lasts longer if i keep wiggling the mouse.

Hi @bailen,

For further analysis of the issue, please send us the logs of your Primary PC by opening the spacedesk Driver console as administrator and clicking on Diagnostics then follow the steps below:

1. Download the DebugView.
2. Check the Diagnostic Collection box.
3. Reproduce the issue e.g. by connecting the spacedesk Viewer app.
4. Uncheck the Diagnostic Collection box.
5. Click “Save All Information” button (this might take a while to finish).
6. Compress/Zip the folder which contains the logs, then attach to your next reply to this post. If the folder exceeds 512kb, you may upload it to Dropbox or Google Drive then include the download link on your next reply.

Thank you.

i updated my pc software to 2.2.28
i have tried with a new usb cable and the issue is still there

Hi @bailen,

We cannot reproduce the issue on our end. Can you try lowering the resolution to either 1920×1080 or 1280×720 and check if the issue still occurs with those resolutions?

Yes the issues are still there at both 1920×1080 and 1280×720
this software and setup has worked for years so i have no idea why it suddenly stopped working.

I have just tried to connect over wireless local network and it is working with that, still id like to get usb working again because its a lot better quality.
I think it could be an issue with the tablet and one of the recent software updates.

Hi @bailen,

If you can, can you try connecting via USB with another Android device to see if the issue also occurs there?

I tested it on my phone, S24+ and it works fine.
i have tested the usb port on the tablet and it can charge and transfer files just fine so i dont think it’ll be a hardware issue, but if you have any advice for testing id be happy to try.

Hi @bailen,

Please update to the latest spacedesk Android App version 2.1.38 then check if the issue is still present on your end. If the issue is still there, can you try using both Software encoding and Hardware encoding then check if the issue is present on both encoding types? Thank you.

Very odd development
i updated the app on the tablet, still didnt work with both software and hardware encoding. I then tried all the other usb ports on the pc, ive always used C to C cables but i then tried my mouses A to C cable and it started working.
then when i unplugged my Ugreen usb ethernet adapter, the original C to C cable started working again. and plugging it back into the pc causes the Spacedesk connection to break.
So it seems they arent compatible with each other for some reason, could it be to do with USB tethering?

UPDATE: i tried plugging the usb ethernet adapter into a usb port that i think uses another usb controller chip and they now both work together, and spacedesk once again lets me use native resolution at 120fps
