Sudden cannot detect Primary Machine

Page 1 of 2Next

Ive been using spacedesk for about a month from my windows computer to my macbook. Ive had no problems with connecting in that time. Suddenly, my macbook app will say that it cannot detect any primary machine. Ive tried everything, making sure the spacedesk is “ON”, same network, no apps running in the back, restarted/full reboot/installed and uninstalled, and nothing is working. Some help would be appreciated!!

Hi @alex-29,

Please refer to the Documentation in the section TROUBLESHOOTING > Network Connection > Cannot Discover Primary Machine and try the suggestions there to resolve your issue. If you have tried all the potential fixes there and none work, please let us know. Thank you.

I’ve tried the methods in the troubleshooting guide. Nothing has helped.

After troubleshooting it myself for a long time I noticed that there’s no driver for spacedesk under “Display Adapters”. Ive uninstalled and redownloaded spacedesk 3 times, made sure I had the right version, and I’ve performed reboots to try to fix the problem, but spacedesk never appears under Display Adapter.

Could you please advise? Thanks

Hi @alex-29,

For further analysis of the issue, please send us the logs of your Primary PC by opening the spacedesk Driver console as administrator and clicking on Diagnostics then follow the steps below:

1. Download the DebugView.
2. Check the Diagnostic Collection box.
3. Reproduce the issue e.g. by connecting the spacedesk Viewer app.
4. Uncheck the Diagnostic Collection box.
5. Click “Save All Information” button (this might take a while to finish).
6. Compress/Zip the folder which contains the logs, then attach to your next reply to this post. If the folder exceeds 512kb, you may upload it to Dropbox or Google Drive then include the download link on your next reply.

Thank you.

Hi @alex-29,

Also, can you check in your Mac’s System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network if spacedesk is allowed to access the Local Network? Thank you.

The mac settings look good.

I’ve attached the debug file as well as a screenshot showing how the driver is not displayed in display adapters.

Thank you.

Hi @alex-29,

The spacedesk Graphics Adapter only appears under Display Adapters in Device Manager when a connection has already been made, so that is normal. As for the link you sent, that is not the debug file but the Debugview executable. Please follow the steps I provided earlier so you can gather your Primary Machine’s logs. Thank you.

Sorry, this should be the correct file now.

Thanks

At this point Ive also bought and tried with an USB cable and nothing works!

Please help!

Hi @alex-29,

The log files you sent are still incomplete. There should be other files collected by the diagnostics of the Driver Console. Please follow the steps I provided earlier and attach the whole zipped folder on your next reply.

Also, can you check if your Macbook can ping your Windows PC? This would let us know if your Macbook is able to access your Windows PC through your local network. Please follow the steps provided below.

  1. On your Windows PC, open the spacedesk Driver Console. Under “LAN Network Adapters”, take note of your PCs IP address. It should look similar to this: 192.168.1.1
  2. On the Mac, open the Terminal by opening Launchpad and searching for Terminal.
  3. On the Terminal, type in “ping [your Windows PCs IP]” then press Return. Refer to the attached image below.
  4. If the Mac can ping the PC, there should be output on the Terminal similar to the one shown on the attached image. If not, the terminal’s output should be this “Request timeout for icmp_seq”
